Tanya White
I am a theater artist and teacher. As a playwright, I often begin a play or poem with a transcendent moment of joy, a turn of phrase, or conversations with ghosts of my lived experience. Through the shared event of live performance, I tell stories to illuminate our inherent connection to each other and everything around us.
Challenging a linear understanding of time drives my exploration as a writer often incorporating technology as both backdrop and character in the goings-on of the story. I am creating worlds at play with Eternalism--- a philosophical theory of time asserting that all points in time are equally real and exist simultaneously. We are all knowing the past, present and future in moments of experience, both as individuals and in unified consciousness.
As an actor and teacher, I commit to the process of creating living and breathing moments generated in collaboration with great text. My teaching is grounded in immediate and truthful response. I believe instinct is the humanity an actor brings to a character. I am fascinated by acting technique as living lineage. I am currently mapping the American acting landscape, tracing my own pedagogical journey while engaging with other teachers and text.
